What is your greatest achievement within your role?

When one of my residents in particular get extremely anxious and agitated, I find it greatly rewarding when I am able to introduce coping mechanisms that helps to alleviate any stress till the are at a calm and relaxed point. It’s a really lovely achievement.

What makes you smile most about the job you do?

When I see that my residents are happy and they are able to enjoy time with family as well as staff. Some of the relationships formed are lovely.

What three qualities do you think a person needs to be a good carer?

You need to: Be passionate about the work that you do.   / Be a caring person.  / It’s important to be a good listener

What’s the hardest thing about being a carer?

Watching residents that you care for reach end of life and then pass away, it can be difficult.

If you had an extra hour in your day, what would you do with it?

Spend more time with residents in a fun environment by creating person centred care through meaningful activities ie: a game of dominos or a a knitting bee – whatever the resident wants to do.
