AA Service
Renaissance At residence, Malin Court, offers scenic views, an idyllic location and a dining experience that competes with many prestigious restaurants - but most importantly – a welcoming home for all residents and staff members to enjoy.
The latest home to be added to Renaissance’s portfolio is set within scenic Turnberry on the Ayrshire coast. A unique experience due to its history and community links.
The home, which previously operated as a care home and hotel facility, now focusses solely on the delivery of exceptional care and support for elderly residents with a luxurious care home setting. Despite this change, the home has retained the exceptionally skilled hospitality team who are fully trained to professional restaurant standard.
Before joining the Renaissance portfolio, the hotel operated with an AA award, a standard to which hospitality manager Natalie says: “Hasn’t faltered. The residents are treated as they would be if they were paying customers within a restaurant. We’re all trained hospitality staff focussing on exceptional service and dining experience, this is the standard we’re proud to continue operating to.” (Service and hygiene)
Having all previously worked within the community and hospitality sector, the transition to offering a restaurant-style service to residents came naturally to the team.
This fine-dining experience is what sets Malin Court apart from many other care home settings. Mealtimes can often be the main focus in a resident’s day, therefore by ensuring they are presented with an experience during each service is incredibly important. Residents are welcomed upon arrival to the restaurant by their waiter and shown to their seat. Drinks orders are taken and prepared at the fully stocked bar and residents receive refreshments throughout their meal. Presentation is key; that extends from food served to napkins laid and coasters with drinks.
Staff at Malin Court are constantly learning and developing as they continue to improve their service and knowledge based on resident well-being. The chef works closely with residents and staff nurses, ensuring nutritional and dietary requirements or allergies are always adhered to. Food textures and consistencies are crucial, even more so to align these with resident preferences - something that remains a priority for the whole team. As a result, residents are offered an extensive and varied menu. People have different tastes and needs so food is always a focus. With all dishes being created in-house including home baking, soups, salad, meats, fish, and more.
The team are constantly engaging and interacting with residents too - If they aren’t serving food or drinks, they are taking their orders and prepping meals accordingly. Meals generally consist of breakfast, morning tea trolley, lunch, afternoon tea trolley, supper, and evening tea trolley – with flexible mealtimes and strong communication with the care team to suit each resident's needs/wants.
Generally, the home offers five or six options each mealtime – with orders being taken in advance so the chef can prepare meals accordingly. Menus are often prepared weekly - dependent on seasonality and supplier availability - and created in-house each day. The chef is always open to suggestions and tries to accommodate any resident requests wherever possible.
Natalie noted: “The service we provide is focussed on exceptional customer service, choice, and creating a unique dining experience – all of which have a huge impact on the residents we cater to. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to offer such a service to our incredible residents”
