C’mon Inn to Jesmond Care Home’s Newest Local
Jesmond Care Home’s newest venture has been getting residents talking this week with the opening of the ‘C’mon Inn’ – a fully stocked, in-house bar and lounge for residents and their families to enjoy.
Residents of the Bridge of Don care home recently got their thinking caps on as they realised the space - which was previously a secondary lounge - wasn’t being used to its full potential. It was then decided that a pub makeover would be the perfect transformation, especially as the home is well-known for its partying antics!
Residents, relatives, and staff were consulted throughout the process – with one resident’s son suggesting the name the ‘C’mon Inn’ to which the welcoming and witty submission gained the majority vote amongst the group.
Jesmond’s activities coordinator, Jade, said:
"They are a sociable bunch. Even newly opened, you can see the benefits the pub’s had on our residents already. They have thoroughly enjoyed going in and having a few drinks and a sing-song, chatting away to their neighbours and reminiscing – it's been lovely to witness. I also can’t thank our maintenance man, Laszlo, enough for bringing our ideas to life. He really listened to what it was we were after – and captured the essence of a real pub perfectly.
“The 'C’mon Inn' has been designed as a place that's accessible to all, creates friendships, promotes laughter and encourages chatter – and the residents have been exceptionally grateful for that.
"We’ve got big plans for the space – with activities that cater to every interest planned for the new year. From pub quizzes, football matches with a pie and a pint, cocktail making, karaoke, wine tasting, and cheese nights – we’re excited to see this previously dormant space blossom into a social hub within the home"
The home has been very fortunate to have received many donations from family members, friends, and fundraising within the home - meaning that guests of the 'C’mon Inn' can expect an extensive menu of drinks ranging from gin, whiskey, spirits, wine, and an assortment of soft drinks. And that's not all – with Christmas at the 'C’mon Inn' seeing the introduction of its festive menu items including snowballs, eggnog, and mulled wine.
