Memories of the Queen
Cowdray club resident Sandy Stephen and his late wife Jeannie would often pass the Queen whilst visiting their daughter and son-in-law in Ballater, Aberdeenshire and at the Victoria Barracks.
On one occasion, Sandy was playing football with the kids one summer at the Barracks and the Queen appeared, Sandy said ‘morning Ma’am’, and the Queen replied ‘nice day for it’ and went on her way.
This happened on a few occasions over the years. Sandy and Jeannie would see the Queen out on walks with her corgis. Each time, she always stopped and said hello. She took time to ask about their day and wish them well. One time, Steven walked ahead and turned to see his wife in full conversation with Her Majesty.
Sandy said It was such a shame that she had passed, she was a wonderful lady who was so natural and comfortable and enjoyed Balmoral very much, and it was a privilege to have met her.
