Muriel's memories of a Queen

Muriel Gray was born in Aberdeen in 1933. Muriel grew up in Aberdeen and went to the Central school in the heart of the city.

She left school and went to work in the Chamberlain’s office working in the department within the British Royal Household. Muriel’s father Bill was a Magistrate, and in 1955 along with Bill she was invited to meet her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Muriel and the Queen were of similar ages and Muriel remembers as if it were yesterday. They shook hands, smiled at each other and Muriel curtseyed. They chatted and soon after, Muriel and her father were invited by Her Majesty to the Townhouse for a meal in the banqueting room. Muriel said it was a memory she cherished and never forgot - she enjoyed every moment of it.

After a spell in London, Muriel and her family came back to their roots and settling in Aberdeen. Muriel’s daughter found another invitation from Her Majesty to a garden party at Holyrood House. Unfortunately, Muriel was unable to attend but was still delighted by the invite kept the it as a keepsake.

All in all we can honestly say Muriel is a Phenomenal Woman and so was our great Queen ❤️
