How do Care Homes Celebrate Occasions?

Celebrating Life: How We Mark Special Occasions at Renaissance Care

Have you ever wondered how do care homes celebrate special occasions? Well, here at Renaissance, we believe every milestone deserves to be celebrated. Whether it's a resident’s birthday, an anniversary, a national holiday, or a seasonal festivity, our team goes the extra mile to make each event joyful, meaningful, and memorable.

Marking 100 Remarkable Years

Recently, we had the honour of celebrating a very special milestone – Kenneth Clacher Kilgour turned 100! To mark his centenary, Kenneth enjoyed a day filled with music, memories, and a heartfelt visit to the Glenlee, the historic Tall Ship at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum. This ship was one he had helped paint in his youth, and the visit was a beautiful tribute to his roots and a touching reminder of his incredible journey.

Easter Joy and Laughter

At Easter, our two brilliant wellbeing leads hopped into action – literally! Dressed as giant rabbits, they visited each resident’s room delivering chocolate eggs, big hugs and a lot of laughs. The smiles, laughter, and surprise on everyone’s faces made the day truly unforgettable. It was a light-hearted, fun-filled moment that reminded us of the joy that small gestures can bring.

Remembering with Heart on VE Day

Not all celebrations are loud or colourful, but some are deeply moving. On VE Day, we took time to reflect on our shared history, revisiting a resident’s powerful memories of life during the war. It was an emotional and poignant experience for all, sparking conversations, storytelling, and a shared sense of honour for those who lived through such defining moments.

What Holidays Do Care Homes Celebrate?

From festive decorations at Christmas and our Summer of Festivals event which is about to kick off, to themed activities on Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and beyond, our homes are alive with seasonal spirit all year round. We always strive to ensure that each event is inclusive, thoughtful, and personal, because every resident deserves to feel seen and celebrated. So when the Euros were on, we made arts and crafts and food-of-the-world activities for the residents who weren’t football fans so they could get into the spirit in their own unique way and still be part of the conversation.

Family Involvement

Families are always welcome and encouraged to be part of our celebrations. These shared moments strengthen bonds and create new memories, which are so important for our residents' wellbeing. Whether it’s for a birthday tea, a sing-along, or a quiet moment of remembrance, having loved ones nearby makes these moments even more special.

Making Everyday Moments Special Not every celebration needs a reason. Sometimes, a surprise music afternoon, a movie night with popcorn, or a visit from our local nursery kids is enough to put huge smiles on the faces of our resident. Our amazing staff are constantly finding creative ways to bring light and laughter into our residents’ days.

Celebration with Care

All of our events are thoughtfully planned with residents’ preferences, abilities, and health in mind. Accessibility, inclusion, and dignity are central to how we celebrate, and we want to ensure everyone can take part in a way that feels comfortable and enjoyable. We celebrate every resident’s birthday and special occasions with individually-tailored events, whether that’s a lunch out, a day trip or even just a favourite care home activities. It’s all part of our goal to ensure every resident is treated as an individual and feels like part of our Renaissance family as we support meaningful celebrations in care.

We Celebrate Because We Care

Special occasions remind us that every resident carries a lifetime of stories, memories, and achievements. Our dedicated care team takes pride in bringing those stories to life, creating joyful, heartfelt experiences that honour each person’s journey and make every day a little more special.
