Renaissance Recognised at Scottish Care Awards. At Renaissance Care, we never stand still and pride ourselves on constantly evolving to improve the wellbeing of the people we look after in our homes across Scotland.

Every day, in each of our homes, staff go above and beyond and this month, that commitment has been recognised with our Wyndwell team being announced as a finalist at the 2025 Scottish Care Home Awards.

The prestigious annual event, hosted by Michelle McManus and Dr Donald Macaskill, celebrates the outstanding dedication, innovation and achievements of the care home workforce across Scotland and will take place on Friday 14 November, at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

The Wyndwell team in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, has secured a coveted shortlist nomination in the Meaningful Activity category, in recognition of their efforts to enhance the experience for residents.

"The results speak for themselves: reduced stress and distress, improved appetites, greater mobility, a reduction in falls – and above all, more laughter. Wyndwell is now a home where activities are not an “extra,” but a central part of life, bringing joy and connection every day.”

Lynne Anderson, Home Manager

Residents' Wellbeing is a Team Effort

After Wyndwell's wellbeing co-ordinator was unable to work due to illness, the entire team - from carers and nurses to kitchen and domestic staff - picked up the baton and embraced the idea that supporting activities for residents is everyone’s responsibility.

Led by Home Manager Lynne Anderson and her senior team, staff were encouraged to take part and share their own ideas, creating a culture where activity is embedded in everyday care. This included creating a WhatsApp group for staff to exchange ideas and suggestions, giving every team member a voice in shaping the experience for residents.

Residents and families have also been fully involved in planning, with staff actively seeking their input to make activities more meaningful and personal.

A notable success was the recreation of Scottish Week, a much-loved Peterhead tradition, that evoked wonderful memories for residents who suggested games and activities they remembered from their childhoods.

On the day, the home was transformed with colour, sound, and energy and residents who were usually quiet became animated, sharing memories and laughing with friends and staff. Music and dancing encouraged everyone to join in, while adapted games meant residents with limited mobility or dementia could participate.

Lynne Anderson welcomed national recognition of Wyndwell's efforts to boost the wellbeing of residents, adding:

“The results speak for themselves: reduced stress and distress, improved appetites, greater mobility, a reduction in falls – and above all, more laughter. Wyndwell is now a home where activities are not an “extra,” but a central part of life, bringing joy and connection every day.”

Yvonne Richardson, Renaissance Care's Operations Director, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of the Wyndwell team. Being named finalists is a wonderful reflection of their dedication and the culture of wellbeing that’s flourishing across our homes. When everyone plays their part in creating meaningful moments for residents, it truly transforms the atmosphere and outcomes for the whole home.”
