Nancy Lamb Celebrates 100th Birthday
Nancy Lamb has credited “good plain farm food and hard work” for a long and happy life as she celebrates her 100th birthday.
She was surrounded by family and friends as she marked the milestone occasion at the care home where she lives in Bridge of Don.
The now 100-year-old was born in Whitecairns on February 26 1926 and was raised alongside her sisters, Molly and Annie.
She spent much of her youth on Backhill Croft, a 24-acre farm, and was educated at Craigie School.
Nancy fondly recalls dancing at Belhelvie Hall with Annie.
She said there were “many nights we got soaked on the way to the dances on our bikes and stood beside the old paraffin heaters in the hall to dry off”.
As a youngster, Nancy aspired to be a bus conductress.
Instead, she took on the role of caretaker and stepped in to support her family when her aunt fell ill.
Her spirit never dwindled and she soon became a well-known figure within the community as a postwoman.
Reaching such a remarkable milestone is a truly special achievement. It’s wonderful to see her surrounded by family and friends to celebrate the occasion.

Rising at 5.30am, Nancy completed deliveries on her bicycle around Whitecairns before she was given a Post Office van when her patch extended to Balmedie.
She has also been a dedicated member of the local Scottish Women’s Rural Institute, Belhelvie Church, and served on the Balmedie Senior Citizens Club.
In 2023, Nancy suffered a stroke and relocated from Backhill Croft, where she raised her daughter Nancy Jane, to Jesmond Care Home.
Yvonne Richardson, operations director at Renaissance Care, said she was “delighted” to celebrate Nancy’s 100th birthday.
