This commitment is shared across our entire staff, as recently demonstrated by Simeon, a painter and decorator in our North team. Simeon takes pride in transforming spaces that not only bring him professional satisfaction but also enhance the lives of our residents, commenting that nothing beats the look of joy on a resident's face when they see their newly refreshed space.
However, Simeon’s impact extends far beyond his craft.
Recently recognised for going ‘Above and Beyond’ when Aberdeen was hit with unprecedented heavy snow, Simeon understood the challenges the weather posed and stepped up in any way he could. He didn’t hesitate to gather shopping lists from the home he was stationed in, braving the elements to ensure our residents never went without essential supplies.
It was far removed from his usual responsibilities, yet his instinctive response reflected the “all hands on deck” spirit that defines our homes. Just as he brings calm and care to the spaces he decorates, he showed that same composure and teamwork in supporting the wellbeing of others - truly putting our values into action.
Having been part of the team for almost two years, Simeon often speaks about the “family-like” atmosphere within our homes. He says it’s the relationships he’s built with colleagues, residents and visitors that have meant the most to him, and that strong sense of belonging has played a key role in his professional growth.
Through refurbishment and redesign projects, he has developed a deeper appreciation for fabrics, colour contrasts and the way thoughtful design can positively shape a care environment. He enjoys the creative process just as much as seeing everything come together in the finished space.
Simeon reminds us that people are always more than their job titles. His craftsmanship enhances our environments, but it’s his character - his empathy, teamwork and willingness to step up - that truly makes the difference.
