Aberdeen care home residents got their toes tapping and hands clapping as they celebrated Burns Night with the help of local pipers and school children.

Cowdray Club, Jesmond and Persley Castle Care Homes all hosted traditional Burns suppers of haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by a dram of whisky for those who fancied it.

The evenings were then topped off by residents reciting some of Rabbie’s most iconic works.

Residents at Cowdray Club were additionally kept company by visiting school children from Ferryhill Primary School.

Helen Wilson, aged 85, of Jesmond Care Home said, “I’ve had a fantastic afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed my Burns supper and a wee dram of whisky.

“It’s always a great atmosphere these activities. I’ve enjoyed the music and hearing some of the Baird’s greatest works be recited. It’s lovely to keep these traditions going.

“Our Activity Coordinators go out of their way to make these events a success– always bringing first class entertainment to the home.”

Dawn Gardiner, Manager of Jesmond Care Home said “It’s been brilliant to see our resident in high spirits and enjoying the evening together.

“Events like Burns Night are such an important part of Scottish culture and something that our residents have many happy memories of celebrating throughout their lives. It’s important to everyone at Renaissance Care that we continue to create these memories for those supported in our homes.

“Slàinte mhath to those who celebrated from everyone at Renaissance Care.”

Jesmond, Persley Castle and Cowdray Club Care Homes are all part of the Renaissance Care Group. It currently operates 16 homes located across Scotland and currently provides care provision for 760 residents and employs around 1,150 staff.
