Renaissance Ravers opens its doors to Jesmond Care Home residents

Residents at a Scottish care home will embrace the rave scene this weekend with the official opening of Scotland’s first over-70s night club.

The Renaissance Ravers will host its first session at Aberdeen’s Jesmond Care Home – operated by Renaissance Care.

Complete with DJ decks, a functioning bar and dance floor, the development comes after residents campaigned for “more tunes” as part of their daily activities.

In preparation for the opening, all care home staff and residents have been studying the history of dance music ahead of what is expected to be a banging set from mix-master DJ, Mo Clark 74, a Jesmond resident who goes by the stage name of “Taily Day”.

Mo said: “I have such fond memories of going out to dance halls in my youth – listening to the hits of the 60s and learning the dances with my friends. I was brilliant at The Twist back then!

“Now I’m more into Martin Garrix and David Guetta and I’m looking forward to the opening set at Renaissance Ravers. People think that getting older means you don’t want to have fun in the way you used to, but I can’t wait to show off my moves again. After all, you are only as old as you feel!

“I’ve got to hand it the activities team at Jesmond, who do a great job of ensuring that there’s tonnes of things going on throughout the home that keep us active and create a lovely atmosphere.”

Jesmond Care Home is part of the Renaissance Care Group. It currently operates 16 homes located across Scotland and currently provides care provision for 760 residents and employs around 1,150 staff.

The Renaissance Ravers night club is set to open today, Saturday 1 April.
