Success for Whitecraigs in New Care Report
An East Renfrewshire nursing home has been highly praised for its care and support of older people.
Whitecraigs Care Home in Newton Mearns was handed a glowing report by the Care Inspectorate after an unannounced visit last month.
Staff at the 58-bedroom home, which is operated by Renaissance Care, were commended for providing “compassionate, dignified care” and nurturing “warm, trusting relationships” with residents.
Inspectors also noted how “meaningful activities and community engagement supported wellbeing and quality of life”.
The Care Inspectorate carries out regular assessments of more than 11,000 registered care services in Scotland to ensure quality of care meets high standards.
Key areas including care and support, physical environment, quality of staffing, and quality of management and leadership are graded on a scale from 1 to 6, where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent.
An inspector visited on May 4 and 5 and spent time with six residents. Feedback was received from five relatives/visitors, ten staff and management, and one visiting professional. Responses to a survey from twelve residents and two family members were also considered.
Their report, which is available on the Care Inspectorate’s website, awarded the home a grade of 5 – “very good” - for its support of people’s wellbeing and a grade of four for its setting.
It states: “People experienced compassionate, dignified care from staff who knew them well and developed warm, trusting relationships. Feedback was consistently positive, with one person stating, "they are so caring, they treat us like family," and another, "I can't ask for any more from them. They are just wonderful," reflecting strong confidence in the service.”
Whitecraigs was commended for strong leadership, with the inspection noting that “a stable and consistent management team demonstrated a clear commitment to improvement, with visible, supportive leadership and positive staff feedback.”
Staff were praised for their “compassion and competence” and the inspection noted that mealtimes “were relaxed and well organised, with staff showing a good awareness of nutritional needs”.
Annmarie Porter, the home manager, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team here at Whitecraigs and of the positive inspection outcome we have achieved together. We’re united by a shared set of values and a clear vision for creating a welcoming, supportive home where residents can truly thrive.
“This recognition reflects the dedication and compassion our team demonstrates every day. Personalised care, meaningful relationships and a strong wellbeing programme are at the heart of what we do, and we remain committed to continuously enhancing the experience of our residents.”
