Jesmond Care Home Remembers Fallen Service Members
The residents, staff, and families of Jesmond Care Home in Aberdeen have been remembering fallen service members through the importance of community this year.
Earlier in the year, residents from Jesmond Care Home visited the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen to remember their time in the regiment. While at the museum, one of the staff members who was assisting with the visit took note of the beautiful display of hand-knitted poppies at the front entrance.
With quick thinking, Jade McGowan put a call out on Jesmond's relatives Facebook page for friends and family to help put together a display of their own poppies. Packages soon started arriving at Jesmond from all over Scotland, even as far afield as Shetland!
Most mornings I was greeted by a "how you getting on with the poppies?"
Jade McGowan, Wellbeing Improvement Manager
"The residents have enjoyed the process seeing all the poppies coming in, all different shapes, sizes, and colours," says Jade, "and then the updates on how I was getting on attaching them all."
Once the poppies had all been collected, the team set about attaching them to netting which was a feat in itself. Jade even contacted the museum to find out materials they has used to ensure that all the hard work of the friends and family who sent poppies in was secured safely to the outside wall.
We would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who sent in poppies over the past seven months. Without the community that has been built around Jesmond, this would not have been possible. It has been wonderful seeing everyone come together this year and work to create a beautiful display.
