Elderly residents to enjoy new ‘party central’ atmosphere as care home welcomes new manager

Renaissance Care’s Beech Manor Care Home has welcomed a new manager, Denise Mccorkindale, who has vowed to bring back the pre-pandemic, feelgood atmosphere of care homes by restocking the home’s custom bar and encouraging residents to reconnect within the local community.

Denise, who is a qualified nurse and brings 13 years of elderly care experience with her to the role, spoke of her plans for the care home. She said “Some residents have fallen out of the habit of socialising with others because of COVID-19 restrictions. I want to breathe some fresh life into our beautiful social spaces and create more opportunities for our residents to get out into the community and enjoy themselves.

“I used to jokingly call the last home I worked ‘party central’ because there was such a variety of social events for the residents. I want to encourage more of that spirit in Beech Manor. We have recently hired a new activities coordinator and purchased a minibus to help us plan more trips around the local area for residents.

“There is bar within the home that we are restocking to allow residents and their families a space to enjoy themselves together. Including families is important to us. We want residents to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and holidays just like they would have if they lived independently.

“We’ve planned some social events in the home to encourage this cultural change. The prosecco afternoon teas have gone down particularly well with residents - who doesn’t love a glass of bubbly? Just because residents need some additional support in their day-to-day lives doesn’t mean that they can’t have fun.”

Denise has spent eight years acting as a home manager and is looking forward to bringing that experience to her new role at Beech Manor Care Home.

When asked about her decision to join the Renaissance Care team, Denise said, “When Renaissance Care presented me with the opportunity to work for them it was an easy yes. I love working in care and it’s a company that is known for putting its staff at the heart of its culture.”

Beech Manor, located close to the exclusive championship golf course of Rosemount, is a purpose-built care home hosting 45 spacious, en-suite rooms set on attractive, accessible grounds. The home boasts a mixture of social space and private, quieter areas that enable residents to have a variety of options for how they spend their time.
